Gibellina Photoroad / open air & site-specific festival

Artistic direction: Arianna Catania
Organisation: Associazione On Image

Gibellina Photoroad is the first open-air, site-specific festival in Italy dedicated to photography and the visual arts, and one of the few in the world. Since 2016, it has transformed the city into an open-air museum, forging a dialogue between contemporary art and urban space. The special 2026 edition features a site-specific installation by Dutch artist Erik Kessels (produced with the support of the Embassy and Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Mondriaan Fund), which will engage residents by transforming a square into a space of memory and participation through visual play; a new outdoor installation by Teresa Giannico, based on photographic collages and reconstructions of portraits and environments; an open-air installation by Stefano Cerio, Redemption of Nature, in collaboration with mudaC – Museo delle Arti Carrara (winner of the DGCC public tender "Strategia Fotografia 2025"). A video installation by Jacopo Di Cera at the Orestiadi Foundation; and a catalog celebrating the festival's tenth anniversary. During the opening days (4-5 July) meetings and guided tours will take place.
