Stalker – Intervento Minimo: Difesa della Natura. Il Lago, da miraggio a ecosistema emergente

Minimal Intervention – Stalker (Giulia Fiocca and Lorenzo Romito)

The spontaneous renaturalization process of the reservoir designed by Ungers and reduced to ruins is the epicenter of the intervention we propose. This intervention aims to understand and foster the evolution of this emerging ecosystem. A collaborative effort aimed at celebrating and caring for this ecosystem together with the community, thus proposing an alliance between human and nonhuman in regenerating the natural and urban environment of Gibellina.

The goal will be to bring the community closer to understanding and caring for the lake, in an effort to save it from neglect and deforestation, and to make it the catalyst for a process of regenerating the relationship between residents and the land. A grassroots laboratory that addresses the ongoing ecological crisis and the social transformations required to live with it.

The entire process leading to the project's realization will also be a transdisciplinary training program open to residents, universities, and interested research institutions.

The proposal is in continuity with the work that Stalker has been carrying out for years alongside communities in the care and defense of emerging ecosystems that have arisen in the ruins of modernity in Rome (Lake Bullicante, Mercati Generali, etc.).

The project draws on the experiences of Danilo Dolci (Diga dello Jato), Lucius Burckhardt (Intervento Minimo) and Joseph Beuys (Difesa della Natura) and is dedicated to Ludovico Corrao who commissioned Stalker perhaps his most beautiful work: the Tappeto Volante.
