Gibellina Photoroad / open air & site-specific festival

Artistic direction: Arianna Catania
Organization: On Image Association

Gibellina Photoroad is the first open air festival and site-specific in Italy, dedicated to photography and the visual arts, and one of the few in the world. Since 2016, it has transformed the city into an open-air museum, creating a dialogue between contemporary art and urban space.
The 2026 special edition features the monumental new installation “Ruins of Renewal” by Dutch artist Erik Kessels (produced with the support of the Embassy and Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Mondriaan Fund), which will showcase photographs by residents of Gibellina’s reconstruction, transforming a square into a space of memory and participation; a new outdoor installation “Alphabet” by Teresa Giannico, based on photographic collages and reconstructions of portraits and environments; the traveling project “Roundtrip” by Alice Grassi, on the windows of houses, which speaks of migration from the South; the video installation “Between” by Jacopo Di Cera at the Orestiadi Foundation, created at Burri’s Cretto; and the open-air installation “Redemption of Nature” by Stefano Cerio, in collaboration with mudaC – Museo delle Arti Carrara (winner of the DGCC’s “Strategia Fotografia 2025” public notice). A catalogue dedicated to the festival's tenth anniversary will be produced.
