On Sunday, April 5th, for Easter, the Belice Epicentro will be closed.
At the end of the 1990s, the French artist chose Sicily as his new home, becoming a point of reference for the underground creative scene and a generation of Sicilian artists. The exhibition, organised in collaboration with the Riso Museum in Palermo, presents an important installation that will remain permanently in Gibellina.
Philippe Berson was born on May 17, 1963, and died on May 17, 2025. He was an artist, sculptor, and performer who lived between Paris and Palermo, where he settled 25 years ago. Combining mineral (metal) and organic (animal bones) materials, the artist seeks, through his primary constructions, an almost shamanic approach to sculpture. This approach is also embodied in his paintings, where the sacred competes for space with the profane. He has exhibited in numerous art events worldwide: the Venice Biennale, New York, – the performance "The Kraken" at The Stone, "Persona" at the Loggiato San Bartolomeo in Palermo, the Istanbul Biennial, "Die Grosse" in Düsseldorf, etc. Over the years, he often dedicated himself to theater as a set and costume designer. In 2013, together with other artists, he founded the LEMOSCHE association in Palermo.
